About us

La Chandelle Verte is a non-profit cultural association, which came into being on 2 April 2022 (👁 see the articles in French). Its acronym is "ALCV".

The vocation of the association is to promote and advance French-language literature of the 19th and 20th centuries.

It takes its name from an expression specific to Alfred Jarry, often placed in the lines of Père Ubu, which became the title of a collection of chronicles published posthumously, in 1969, bearing the subtitle "bringing light to our times".

It aims to shed light on what we call « the Literary Thing » : (memory of authors, memory of texts and their history, memory of literary events). The best way to perpetuate this heritage is to promote it and circulate it widely, so that it can be better transmitted to future generations.

Projects are numerous: publishing books and beautiful things to read and contemplate; creating a literary database; monitoring and safeguarding places of literary fame; dialogues, reflections and debates on its blog and social networks (Instagram, Facebook); information and advice on its website; organizing exhibitions, events, cultural outings; etc.
